Steve Squires

Hello everyone, my name is Steve Squires. I am from Middlebury, Indiana, and in 2000, I was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease.  I was told that within 10 years, I would likely be in a wheelchair, not able to walk well, and my quality of life would diminish. Well, I decided to fight instead of letting this progressive neurodegenerative disease defeat me. I have found that with exercising, it is possible to slow the progression of this disease. After 25 years past July, I continue to battle, not giving up, and to share my story with others.

I am joining a group of Parkinson’s warriors on an epic cycling from March to April of 2026, from Chicago, Illinois, to Phoenix, Arizona. Our team will ride approximately 1800+ miles where I will be riding a trike from TerraTrike.  This trip will take over a month to complete. In the final miles, our team will merge with other teams from around the world, and ride into the World Parkinson’s Congress 2026 as one team. During our journey, we will be talking to many media outlets as well as others with PD to bring knowledge and awareness to everyone watching and that we will encounter. This trip involves many financial aspects for which I need your assistance. Over the approximately 37 days, we will stay at several hotels and AirBNB’s.  We have expenses for support vehicles gasoline, as well as groceries and water since we will be limited to what we can carry. My goal is to raise $5000 to make this trip and any overages will be donated for research for a cure.

We are documenting this trip to help motivate others with this disease, along with their caretakers, to NOT GIVE UP! Parkinson’s can be slowed and you can still live with the disease if you are willing to fight. Your help in making this trip will affect not only me but everyone that our trip encounters and who follows our journey.
