Steve was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease in the summer of 2000, and has had Parkinson’s for over half of his life. He works as an automotive upfitter doing window tint, remote starts, and accessories, still to this day, but admits things get more challenging by the day. Hobbies include bowling, golf, and cycling on his recumbent trike.
Steve is a certified Bronze Level coach for the United States Bowling Congress and has worked with youth and adult bowlers, especially those with physical issues. In 2024, he became a brand ambassador for TerraTrike recumbent trikes, working to get more people with PD outside and riding safely. He and his family have raised over $100,000 for Parkinson’s research for a cure through bowling tournaments they run annually.
Steve was the second person to take part in the trial study for the now FDA approved MRI/Focused Ultrasound treatment by the University of Maryland. “Being part of a trial study is like being a stunt person. Somebody has to be the first to do it, and it might as well be me”, Steve stated. He has a vested interest in research funding otherwise, he likely would have never been able to get part of his life back by participating in the trial study.
Steve’s philosophy is “If you stop moving, you’ll STOP MOVING! Staying active is the key to battling this disease.” He also is he coauthor on the book Sports, Exercise, and Slowing the Progression of Parkinson’s Disease where he did the chapters on bowling, golf, and cycling, showing how to put that philosophy into practice.
